The latest Ofcom Media Nations report shows that while digital streaming platforms lead on-demand entertainment, live public service broadcasting remains the primary choice for breaking news and sports.
Traditional broadcasters are increasingly transitioning to hybrid delivery models, launching unified digital streaming applications that bundle live news wires with archive programming to retain younger demographics.
"The battle for the living room screen is no longer about delivery mechanism, but about content localization and trust signals," says media analyst Sarah Jenkins.
Ofcom suggests that regulatory support for public service prominence on connected TVs remains essential to preserve local journalism and educational content distribution.
